Does anyone have any experience with Spicher and Company (or other makes) of vinyl floorcloths? Specifically interested in how they wear, how waterproof they are or are not, and if the edges or corners curl up. I have special needs dogs here, and this could be the answer to several different problems if they lay flat, clean easily, and wear well.Â

John T. Foreman This is what we used in every room
Susannah Charleson Author. What is it?
Susannah Charleson Author. I'm looking for something to put over my existing hardwood to protect it, but not wanting to replace the floor (or use rugs, as they just aren't functioning well).
John T. Foreman @Susannah Charleson this is what it looks like down. It is a floating floor (not glued down). Will not harm hardwood floors. It is wonderful stuff...Look it up on line. We got it at home depot.Daughter used it in her kitchen over a tiled floor..
John T. Foreman Another pic..
John T. Foreman Strip vinyl with locking edges.

Patricia Susen I used to make and sell floorcloths in the 1980s - taught classes on how to make them as well. You will have to put grippers down to hold them in place - they will slip and slide everywhere. Depending on the finish, you might get two/three years out of them. dog's nails can do a number on them - I know from personal experience!
Paul Snyder @Kolene Spicher, maybe you could answer this question?
Cyndia Montgomery Have you heard of Ruggable rugs? They’re reputed to be good with pets. Also, I like indoor/outdoor rugs because they clean so easily. I’d pick a good quality one so it will last longer. Ballard Designs sells nice ones.https://www.google.com/.../www.today.../today/amp/tdna123242
Heather Hoffman Kimel @Cyndia Montgomery omg nooooooooo. I bought a couple and they are awful. Once washed the edges curl up and never lay flat again
Susannah Charleson AuthorI have Ruggables now, have had for about 8 months -- and while I love the premise and the washability, I have to agree about the curling in the long term, and our special needs dogs, two paralyzed, make that worse because they are either in drag bags or on wheels that flip up the edges. We have used indoor/outdoor rugs, but they create chafing problems for the paralyzed dogs and, even though they can be cleaned outside (I've spent years hosing and drying), there is a point where they never really smell clean again.
Cyndia Montgomery Thanks for your reviews! I have a client who really wanted some and I was curious how they would hold up. Will check Ruggables OFF THE LIST!
Susannah Charleson AuthorWe also had an issue of our largest one shrinking by about 2”, so that much black undermat is exposed.
Molly Hart I never heard of floor cloths? But I’m interested to hear about it. When Molly started having difficulty walking and getting up, I used yoga mats. They were much better than throw rugs. They didn’t slide around and gave her more traction. And they were extremely easy to hose off.
Susannah Charleson Author. Floor cloths are an attractive solution that span centuries and, because many are meant to look "distressed" and aged, the house can still look nice and be protected. I've seen them in historic homes in the UK and over here.https://laurelberninteriors.com/.../hardwood-floor.../
Cyndia Montgomery @Susannah, don’t you love Laurel?
Jenn Miller If it's vinyl it's going to be slippery. Not good for geriatric dogs. I like LL Bean waterhog mats - you can take them outside and just hose that &hit off.
