Yea or Nay? Finger jointed shiplap pine/redwood for exterior siding

I need to replace some very damaged shiplap siding on my house and most lumber yards have plenty of finger jointed wood in pine or redwood. Does finger jointed wood hold up for years when used for exterior siding? It would be primed both sides and ends, caulked on the verticals, painted with quality exterior paint. And is there a significant difference in longevity between pine and redwood when used for exterior siding.

Alternatively solid wood is available. Solid pine shiplap seems to be intended for interiors as it is "knotty pine" that is lower quality with many pieces having cracks around the knots etc. There is one smaller yard that has solid redwood and of course that is significantly more expensive than finger jointed redwood. But if it holds up three times as long, it could be worth paying more.
