Duane D Houghton is a master preservationist, carpenter, and the visionary behind Early American Restoration, a historic restoration and remodeling company based in MetroWest, Massachusetts. A U.S. Navy Seabee veteran with a background in fine craftsmanship, heavy construction, and a Master’s degree in Historic Preservation, Duane blends scholarly expertise with hands-on skill to bring New England’s architectural heritage back to life — one beam, window, and hand-planed board at a time.
For well over a decade, Duane has led restoration projects on some of the region’s most iconic and culturally significant structures, including homes, barns, churches, and civic buildings. Whether it’s stabilizing centuries-old timber frames, crafting custom storm windows approved by local historic commissions, or undoing the damage of ill-informed modern renovations, Duane’s work reflects deep respect for traditional methods and materials — and a fierce commitment to doing things the right way.
He is also an active voice in the preservation community, volunteering on committees, advocating for endangered historic properties, and mentoring the next generation of tradespeople, including standout students from local vocational schools.
At the heart of it all is Duane’s belief that old houses don’t just deserve to be saved — they deserve to be understood, honored, and lived in for generations to come.
